The 1st Inauguration Speech
Lincoln's First Inaugural Address was on March 4, 1861. The new president Abraham Lincoln made a promise in his Inaugural Address that could not be kept. He promised to not interfere with slavery and he was just going to keep where is was, the north free, and the south slave. As we can see now, this didn't happen. Once the battles of the Civil War was going full throttle, Lincoln knew that he had to free the slaves. In his First Inaugural Address, just like any other, Lincoln was sworn into presidency. Abraham’s presidency lasted 4 years when he got assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. In his first inaugural Address, he said he would keep this country in freedom and would take care of us. For almost all of Lincoln's presidency, the Civil War took over and he never actually had the chance to prove that he could control the country. In the end, Lincoln did make his mark in the world and he was truly the best president we have had and he led this country together. If any other person is as good a person as Abraham Lincoln, I sure hope he or she runs for president too!
